Alexandra Lerman interweaves documentary and fiction in sculpture, installations and video to interrogate systems and ideologies governing the post-industrial world of immaterial labour, production, communication and mediation. The themes of her work locate themselves in historical moments in which language, body gesture and expressive freedom come into conflict with the abstract forces of private, institutional and governmental control such as copyright, artistic ownership, digital licensing and merchandising.

Lerman's individual and collaborative projects have been shown at the Storefront for Art and Architecture, Anthology Film Archives, Austrian Cultural Forum, Artists Space and Janos Gat Gallery, the New Museum in New York, MUSAC in Spain and the Hermitage in Russia. She took part in The Retreat: A Position of dOCUMENTA (13) Banff Research in Culture 2012, Banff, Alberta, Canada and the LMCC Workspace program 2012-2013. Alexandra holds an MFA from Columbia University, 2012 and a BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art, 2004.
